Chicago Bulls: An early look at 5 free agents to pursue
By Ryan Heckman
Shooting Guard Kentavious Caldwell-Pope, Los Angeles Lakers
Age: 25
Experience: Five seasons
Type of free agent: Unrestricted
2017 averages: 13.6 points, 5.3 rebounds, 2.2 assists, 1.5 steals in 33.6 minutes per game
Kentavious Caldwell-Pope would give the Bulls another solid wing option in their starting lineup. With LaVine more of the scoring threat, Caldwell-Pope would be the defensive specialist, taking more pressure off his counter part.
Caldwell-Pope is an athletic wing who has never been a phenomenal scorer in the NBA, but did shoot the ball well from beyond the arc this season at 38 percent. Think of him more as a spot-up three-point shooter on offense who can still see the court well enough to help others get involved. Meanwhile, he gets it done on the defensive end.
Other than LaVine, the Bulls don’t really have a whole lot of experience on the wing. Justin Holiday played well at times this past season, and could be more of a threat off the bench if not counted on as a starter. Caldwell-Pope may be able to do that for him, thus it being a win-win for those two.
David Nwaba played real well at times this year too, and the Bulls still have Denzel Valentine. However, I think Caldwell-Pope is an instant upgrade from both of them. Depending on the price tag, the Bulls should take a look.
