Chicago Bears quarterback Mitchell Trubisky appeared on a premier football program Friday and gave lots of credit to his new head coach.

A few weeks ago, Chicago Bears head coach Matt Nagy appeared on NFL Network’s Good Morning Football and chatted with Peter Schrager about his new gig with the team. He specifically talked a little about his new quarterback as well, noting Mitchell Trubisky‘s improvement over his rookie season.

Friday, Trubisky returned the favor as he appeared on the show himself. Early in the interview, the quarterback was questioned on what he believes the difference is between last year and this year. He was genuinely excited and showed quite a bit of maturity, knowing that he cannot dwell on the past and his team has a bright future ahead.

"“There’s just a lot of energy. We know we have the talent. We just didn’t finish games. We have the right man to lead the way.”“I really feel I was built for this offense. We’re going to get the ball out quick. We’re going to be balanced. This offense will utilize my talents.”“I thought it was my birthday, an early birthday, an early Christmas. We got some great weapons.”"

The folks at GMFB asked Trubisky about day one with his new coach. Obviously, we heard from some of the players earlier in the week about how they responded to Nagy’s opening message. Players had nothing but rave reviews for their new leader.

Here’s what Trubisky had to say:

"“There’s a lot of energy. Everybody’s excited to be back … We got the right guys in this building and I think we got the right man to lead the way in coach Nagy.”“First day meeting, he had me ready to go. He had me ready to play that day … going through the Bears history … We’re playing for a special organization. It’s a privilege and an honor to wear this Bears uniform.”"

Trubisky was then asked about his advice for any of these upcoming first-round talent quarterbacks expected to go early in the 2018 NFL Draft.

"“It really doesn’t matter what everyone has to say about you … If you know what you can do and you have confidence in yourself, you work hard, and you believe in your abilities, and you just love the game, you study it and you’re passionate about it … I think everything will end up in the right place for you.”"

A year ago, there were questions about Trubisky’s talent heading into the draft. With only one year of starting experience in college, people wondered whether or not his game would translate. Would the stage be too big? Did he play against the right level of competition at North Carolina?

Many questions surrounded him, especially after the Bears shockingly traded up to get him. There were sexier picks like Deshaun Watson. There were more intriguing picks like Patrick Mahomes. But, it was clear that Ryan Pace believed in Trubisky.

His rookie season proved one thing overall: Trubisky is a leader. Leadership is not just about being a talented player; talented enough to have people want to play with you in order to win games. It’s about having teammates willing to lay it all on the line for you, and Trubisky’s teammates have certainly been outspoken in that regard.
