C. Iowa. player. 57. . James Daniels. 2.

Pick made by William Martin @W_M_Martin

James Daniels has been a talented player since the day he walked onto the campus in Iowa City. He started every single game as a true freshman, two of which came at left guard. He was moved to center in 2016, where he truly began to flourish.

Daniels possesses very impressive quickness to gain the upper hand with positioning in the first and second levels. While most analysts and scouts see him as a ‘zone-blocking-only center’, others believe he could fit into any blocking scheme.

While that point is nice to keep note of, it really shouldn’t matter much. Why?

Matt Nagy deploys a zone-blocking scheme. It’s what he ran in Kansas City. Not only will Daniels help fill a need on the interior, but Jordan Howard runs well with inside zone. Even though he struggles catching the ball at times, Nagy basically has a 12-gauge shotgun he can unleash any time he chooses.

This clip is just another of many great examples of what the former Hawkeye can do:

Not only does Daniels pop the linebacker, but he doesn’t quit on the play. Meanwhile, his poor adversary just gives up because he’s going up against a first-round caliber offensive lineman.

Not only will Daniels be a steal, but he’s filling a massive hole in the middle of the offensive line. Josh Sitton no longer being a member of the Bears means Chicago needs to come away with a starter in the interior by the end of the draft. Shifting Cody Whitehair to left guard and sliding Daniels between him and Kyle Long makes too much sense.
