Cameron Meredith has signed an offer sheet with another team, becoming the second Chicago Bears free agent to do so.

The Chicago Bears have already seen one of their own get an offer sheet from another team after Kyle Fuller received an offer from the Green Bay Packers earlier in the offseason. Ryan Pace quickly matched the offer, retaining Fuller.

Friday, the New Orleans Saints and Cameron Meredith came together on an offer sheet. Meredith signed for a 2-year, $10 million deal. Right now, Pace’s offer is $1.9 million for the coming season.

Will the Bears match?

Meredith had met with both the Indianapolis Colts and Baltimore Ravens previously, but the Saints were the only team to get a deal agreed upon. Now, Pace has a decision to make. The uncertainty of Meredith coming off an ACL tear presents an interesting situation for the Bears.

Having already signed Allen Robinson and Taylor Gabriel, the Bears have two very capable players at the position. One option would be to let Meredith go and find a receiver in later rounds to step in and compete, of course.

The other option, obviously, is to match the deal and hope that Meredith is back and healthy. If he comes back and is the same player he was prior to the injury, Meredith would be a steal at $5 million per year.

Meredith doesn’t yet have a full NFL season under his belt as a starter, so his limited body of work must also come into play. When he was on the field last, he caught 66 passes for 888 yards and four touchdowns in 2016 — this was also with multiple starters at quarterback for the Bears that year.

The fourth-year pro out of Illinois State is a former quarterback and could definitely give Matt Nagy a desirable weapon in the new offense, which is sure to feature some trick plays here and there.
