Marquis Haynes, EDGE, Ole Miss

If the Bears end up going a different direction in the first two rounds, they could always address the edge rusher spot in the third or fourth by going with Marquis Haynes out of Ole Miss. Haynes is an older prospect in comparison to most, at 24 years old, but still possesses a lot of upside.

The Bears need someone who can get to the quarterback on the outside, period. Haynes’ profile fits a lot like Leonard Floyd‘s did as a rookie, and Vic Fangio has been able to get a lot out of Floyd, with more to come.

Haynes is a skinner guy who may strike some as just a larger safety, but he is quick off the ball and relentless in his second, third and fourth efforts. He gets off the ball very well, exploding off the block. His downside, like Floyd’s was, is his need to put on some muscle. That can always be done with the right dieting and training.

The Bears met with Haynes at this year’s Senior Bowl. Haynes finished his four-year college career playing in double digit games every season, proving his durability. He never ended a season with less than seven sacks, finishing each year with 7.5, 7.0, 10.0 and 7.5, respectively.

As a team in need of help at the pass rush and, specifically, the ability to force turnovers at that position, Haynes is the real deal. He forced three fumbles in every season at Ole Miss. Pace most definitely has Haynes on his radar and he could be quite the plucking in the thir
