Chicago Bears: 5 draft day trades that make sense
By Ryan Heckman
One of the dark horse teams in a quarterback sweepstakes? The Miami Dolphins.
More and more I am hearing lots of analysts, experts and podcasters out there mentioning the Miami Dolphins as a team to watch out for when it comes to this year’s crop of quarterbacks. But, why?
Well, I don’t really know if anybody knows what they are going to do at quarterback going forward. The one thing I have heard, though, is that they may want to start looking for a replacement for Ryan Tannehill. Even Adam Gase has hinted at drafting a quarterback recently.
For this scenario, the Dolphins would send the Bears their 11th overall pick in round one in exchange for the Bears’ pick at eight. They would also ship out their third-round pick, no. 73 overall, to the Bears.
For Chicago, this makes sense because they will likely get one of their top guys at 11, just as they may have at eight. They also get to recoup a third-round pick that they gave up in the trade a year ago for Trubisky.
Who does Miami target with the trade? Well, in all likelihood, Darnold and Allen are gone by now. Does Rosen fall? Does Mayfield’s stock rise before then?
When all is taken into consideration, Mayfield is the most accurate passer in the group and is responsible for the least amount of incompletions out of all quarterbacks in the class. Just nine percent of his incompletions were his fault according to Pro Football Focus, which is good for tops among all prospects, by a long shot.
