One of these guys made sense to bring back. The other? Not so much.

Sherrick McManis

I can see why the Bears wanted to bring back McManis. He’s a hometown guy, born and raised in Peoria, IL and having come out of Northwestern. After spending his first two years with the Texans, he has played the last six seasons in Chicago.

McManis is another great example of a player who knows Fangio’s defense and revels in contributing on special teams. Is he a shut-down corner? No, he’s more comfortable in the slot and is not their worst option at the position.

While Pace may have been able to find better depth at the position, there’s no denying that the value is nice.

Marcus Cooper

Yikes. I don’t know what to say about this decision except — yikes.

My hope is that Cooper’s lack of wherewithal is on full display during training camp and the coaching staff understands that he shouldn’t be on the final roster. For some reason, Pace felt “good” about Cooper and brought him back.

"“Obviously we feel good about him. There’s a reason why he’s back. I think right now kind of a clean slate for 2018 and let him attack this offseason and kind of work himself back in.”"

Of course, I don’t need to go into depth about why Bears fans didn’t want him back. All I need to mention are the words, “premature celebration” and we all know exactly what I’m talking about.
