The Bears got rid of three players on offense, including one key starter.

Mike Glennon

Well done, Pace.

Grade: A+

Markus Wheaton

I don’t know how much more of an obvious cut you can get than Glennon, but Wheaton was a close second. Saving the Bears $5 million in cap space just a year after providing them with three catches, Pace didn’t waste any time.

Even right away, most fans were skeptical at the signing last year. He was coming off a season where he only played three games due to injury, and if you know anything about the Bears’ receiving core, you know injured receivers are the last thing they need.

Both Wheaton and Glennon were two of Pace’s biggest mistakes from 2017, but thankfully he manned up and owned them.

Grade: A

Josh Sitton

Sitton was a cut that many saw coming, but at the same time there were quite a number of others who didn’t expect it. His situation brought out varying opinions among fans. The way I saw it, the Bears were letting go of a very, very good player who will be tough to replace.

Of course, Sitton’s release saved the Bears $8 million in 2018. Was it worth it to let him go? At the moment, they could have still afforded to keep him.

Once again, Pace must know something we don’t. Will the Bears get their hands on Quenton Nelson at number eight overall? If so, then all is forgotten and the Sitton release made perfect sense.
