Chicago Bulls: Looking at 5 potential offseason moves
By Ryan Heckman
Getting another solid wing player will be a top priority for the Bulls.
While Justin Holiday looked fine at times, the Bulls need more talent on the wing besides LaVine. Will Barton could be that guy.
Barton will be an unrestricted free agent come summer and has had a very solid season for the Denver Nuggets. The Bulls are no stranger to Barton. In fact, they should remember him well from a career night against Chicago back in November of last year.
Barton scored a career-best 37 points on 13-of-19 shooting and thanks to knocking down six from downtown. On the season, Barton is putting up well-rounded numbers across the board: 15.2 points on 44.7 percent shooting (37 percent from deep), 4.9 rebounds, 4.1 assists and 1.1 steals per game.
The impressive thing about Barton is that he’s doing this coming off the bench. His talent could make him a starter on a few teams around the league, but he might just end up being best-served as a guy coming off the bench to provide a lift.
The question then becomes, will he demand a starter-worthy contract? The better question is, will there be teams willing to give it to him? This will shape how the Bulls might pursue him. Although, he isn’t a huge name and at the moment, Chicago likely won’t be able to land a bigger name until the front office proves they can be trusted.
