The Chicago White Sox came out swinging on Opening Day.

The South Siders hit six home runs in a 14-7 dismantling of the Kansas City Royals.

Despite the blowout score, the game wasn’t always in the hands of the White Sox. James Shields served up a three-run long ball to cap off a 4-run first inning for the Kansas City Royals.

White Sox fans were probably thinking, “here we go again”.

But the tide turned quickly, as Jose Abreu took Royals starter Danny Duffy deep for a two-run home run in the fourth.

Designated hitter Matt Davidson followed up Abreu’s blast with one of his own, cutting the deficit to 4-3.

Two batters later, Tim Anderson tied the game with an absolute bomb to deep right field. The one-time four-run deficit was completely erased.

Hawk Harrelson would’ve said, “Don’t Stop Now Boys!”.

Ricky’s boys didn’t stop. Yoan Moncada gave the White Sox the lead with an RBI double.

Davidson and Anderson both hit their second homers in the fifth inning, ending Duffy’s day.

Meanwhile on the bump, Shields was cruising. The veteran righty retired twelve of fifteen after the four-run first.

Leading 11-4 in the eighth, Davidson stepped up to the plate and made history.

Davidson hit his third home run of the game, tied for an MLB record on Opening Day. The homer was the White Sox’ sixth as a team, tying another Opening Day record.

The White Sox would go on to win the game 14-7. Five players in the lineup recorded multiple hits, with eight players recording hits overall.

The White Sox picked up the win on Opening Day for the second time in three years. Shields picks up the win in his seventh career Opening Day start.
