4. Chicago White Sox exceed expectations, finish over .500

Yeah, I said it.

I think the Chicago White Sox are really going to surprise a lot of people this year.

Just about everything has to go right, but it’s not impossible.

Let’s start with their competition. The American League Central is arguably the least-competitive division in baseball. PECOTA projections predict the Kansas City Royals to finish 65-97, and for the Detroit Tigers to finish 68-94.

If the Chicago White Sox can do the “easy” part and beat the bad teams, that’s at least 20-25 wins right there.

Next is the pitching. The White Sox are going to need good seasons from James Shields and Miguel Gonzalez to anchor the staff. Lucas Giolito and Reynaldo Lopez are going to need to meet expectations. Carlos Rodon is going to have to come off the DL and stay healthy.

The lineup should produce without much issue. However, Jose Abreu and Avisail Garcia need to repeat their 2017 seasons. Yoan Moncada is going to have to increase his production. Same goes for Tim Anderson and Adam Engel.

Finally, the bullpen is going to have to become a consistent unit. Nate Jones has to have a huge season in the closer role. Veteran arms are going to need to stay consistent. Everyone has to stay healthy.

Yeah, its asking a lot. But again, its not impossible. All of this could happen.

We’ll just have to wait and see.
