3. Chicago White Sox stand pat, stay quiet at the Trade Deadline

The headline above might seem like a foreign language for White Sox fans at this point.

Two years into the rebuild, Chicago White Sox fans have gotten used to seeing star players getting shipped out-of-town in exchange for prospects.

This year could be a little different. For two reasons.

First, there isn’t much to trade. Jose Abreu and Avisail Garcia are both controllable, high-level producers. The White Sox would get solid returns for both of them.

But that’s it. In the past, multiple deals were made within a few weeks, allowing the White Sox to stockpile young talent while shipping out veterans in the same cycle.

The cycle that the White Sox went through in December 2016 and July 2017 is going to be impossible this year. There just simply isn’t enough to trade anymore.

The second reason is production. If the White Six find themselves in third place and somewhat in contention for a Wild Card spot, there would be no point in trading Garcia and Abreu.

The next slide will go a little more in-depth, but for that reason I think the White Sox stand pat at the deadline, while holding on to all young talent by not buying.

Its been a while since the White Sox have been quiet at the deadline, but 2018 has all the makings of a quiet end of July.
