Chicago Bears: Seven-round post-free agency mock draft
6th round
Chucky Williams
Safety, Louisville
For now, the Bears are comfortable with their starting safety tandem in Eddie Jackson and Adrian Amos.
Jackson showed flashes in his rookie season that he can possibly develop into a ball-hawking free safety the team has been trying to find for quite some time. While with Amos, the Bears have a steady strong safety who is solid against the run and understand his assignments in coverage.
While the starters seem somewhat set for 2018, the depth behind the two leaves little to be desired. Deon Bush was selected in the fourth round of the 2016 draft. Coming into his third season, I’m still wondering what he does well. .
Deiondre’ Hall has the perfect skill set to be a playmaker at free safety. The problem is the Bears don’t know if they want to keep him at safety or corner. He also has a tall wall to climb with the team very high on Jackson’s potential.
DeAndre Houston-Carson seems to have carved out a role as a special team performer. The Bears need depth and maybe some competition for Amos. Chucky Williams is a hard-hitting safety who has also shown throughout his career that he can make plays on the football.
Williams is the type of prospect that can immediately contribute on special teams, while he develops and refines his technique.
