Chicago Bears: Mocking picks 1-8 of 2018 NFL Draft
By Ryan Heckman
The New York Giants select pass rusher Bradley Chubb with the second overall pick.
While the Bears would love to get their hands on Bradley Chubb out of N.C. State, it’s not going to happen. Some analysts have him ranked as their top player in this year’s draft class, and a lot of them will even tell you he’s better than Myles Garrett was coming out of college last year.
The Giants just recently traded away one of their top guys at the position in Jason Pierre-Paul, shipping him off to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in exchange for a couple of picks. This tells me they are all in on Chubb, knowing very well that Cleveland won’t be taking him first overall.
The Bears could, of course, use Chubb. But, they will have an option to get another guy at this position later on. Many like the thought of Marcus Davenport going to Chicago at eight overall, but if someone else falls to them, he likely won’t be the pick.
It appears as though the Giants will roll with Eli Manning for another year or two before they search for a replacement, at least according to the new coaching regime. Chubb gives the Giants an instant impact starter on the edge and, more importantly for the Bears, gives the next few teams a shot at one of the remaining quarterbacks available.
