Chicago Bears: Mocking picks 1-8 of 2018 NFL Draft
By Ryan Heckman
Cleveland Browns select Quarterback Sam Darnold out of USC with the first overall pick.
Fortunately for the Bears, this year’s draft preparation does not include the word “quarterback.” Also fortunate for the Bears and their fans is the fact that the words “Mike Glennon” will no longer impact what they choose to do.
The Cleveland Browns are likely going to select quarterback Sam Darnold out of USC at the first overall spot. If you look at just about every mock draft out there or ask any expert, Darnold is the guy in Cleveland. It would shock just about everyone in the football world if they took someone other than him at this point.
As funny as it might be to some, the Browns haven’t been messing around and they could be on their way to a win or two next season — okay, enough of the jokes. Darnold had a great Pro Day, and the Browns definitely took notice.
Even after trading for Tyrod Taylor, the Browns know their work at the position is not done. Whether or not they view Taylor as a long-term solution is up in the air, but only for about another month or so. They have added weapons on offense, now they will have competition and a future at the most important position of all.
For Chicago, one quarterback off the board is a great thing. This means that the quarterback-needy teams ahead of them should now have it narrowed to one of three of the remaining upper echelon players at the position.
