Chicago Bears Rumors: Cameron Meredith market gaining steam
By Ryan Heckman
Chicago Bears restricted free agent wideout Cameron Meredith appears to be seeing his market rise among other teams.
The Chicago Bears should be much-improved at the wide receiver position next season, especially if restricted free agent Cameron Meredith returns and proves to be healthy. However, it appears that notion may be up in the air at the moment.
Meredith has already visited the Baltimore Ravens and Indianapolis Colts who showed some strong interest in the 25-year-old. Apparently, Meredith’s visits are just getting started and should only increase from here on out.
It is unclear what additional teams are hosting Meredith on a visit, but one thing is indeed clear: The Bears could be losing Meredith if his price reaches too high of a number.
I would venture to guess that instead of paying Meredith too much money, as a guy who has yet to play a full season as a wide receiver, that Ryan Pace would rather draft a rookie and develop him as a potential second or third guy among the group.
When he’s been healthy and active, Meredith has given the Bears a big-bodied threat who has improved greatly since coming up as a practice squad guy. Only boasting 77 career receptions, however, his experience is lacking.
It is worth noting that a team like the Ravens were interested in both Meredith and Allen Hurns. The Dallas Cowboys just signed Hurns to a two-year deal on Friday, taking him off their wish list. Could the Ravens extend an offer shortly? I wouldn’t be surprised.

Chicago needs to retain Meredith for multiple reasons, one being that he’s young and has a lot of potential with what he’s shown so far. Second, though, is the fact that he is very well-liked around the city of Chicago, playing his college ball at Illinois State. Keeping a hometown kid in Chicago would be in Pace’s best interest, especially with his skillset.
