Chicago Bears: 5 pre-daft position battle previews
By Ryan Heckman
Return Specialist
In the mix: Tarik Cohen, Eddie Jackson, Taylor Gabriel, Bryce Callahan
Thankfully, the Marc Mariani days are long gone. If there is one thing Pace has done really well that has gone under the radar, it has been addressing the group of return specialists on the roster over the past year.
Last year, Tarik Cohen, Eddie Jackson and Bryce Callahan shared duties returning kicks and punts. All three players scored in one way or another (Jackson’s coming on two interceptions) and showed the ability to get upfield in a hurry.
This position battle will surely be interesting to watch for a couple of reasons. First, what will Cohen’s role look like in the Matt Nagy offense? I can guarantee you this: He will get much more action than he did a season ago.
Cohen is the most electric player on the roster and is best with the ball in his hands in the open field. For this reason, I can’t see how Nagy pulls him away from return duties altogether. There is absolutely no way this happens.
What might happen, though, is Cohen sharing the responsibilities with someone else. Will it be Jackson, Gabriel or Callahan? That is the questions. Either way, the Bears should put some points on the board via special teams in 2018. That is for sure.
