The Chicago Bears outside linebacker woes are well-documented.

As I’ve mentioned earlier in this post they have little to nothing at the position after purging off aging veterans that can’t stay healthy. You can make a case that middle linebacker is also a concern from a depth perspective. Both guys Danny Trevathan and Nick Kwiatkoski have had issues staying healthy the past couple seasons.

The Bears tried their hardest to retain free agent Christian Jones, but he opted for more money and an opportunity to start with the Detroit Lions. He was likely not going to get a fair chance here as the Bears are high on Kwiatkoski.

The Bears need depth at the position, and a name you are going to hear a lot in the coming weeks is Tremaine Edmunds.

The question with Edmunds is whether he’s an inside linebacker or edge rusher. On the surface, he looks like he would be more of a fit on the inside. His athleticism and speed could be used to cover tight ends over the middle and running backs coming out the backfield.

However, he was also used in college as a pass rusher. As a pass rusher, he has tremendous upside but will be a big work in progress. However, as a middle linebacker, he can have more of an instant impact.
