Mike McGlinchey, offensive tackle

The Chicago Bears are comfortable with their two starting tackles Charles Leno and Bobby Massie. But if an upgrade is out there (over Massie in particular), they have to at least entertain the idea. The prize possession of this franchise is quarterback Mitchell Trubisky. They have to do everything possible to not only keep him upright but also maximize his potential.

Leno’s contract extension surely makes him safe, and he had a decent 2017 season for the Bears at left tackle.

Massie, on the other hand, is not safe. Still, for all the flack he gets for giving up the occasional quarterback hurry one-to-a-few times a game, he played serviceably enough to keep his spot at right tackle.

Mike McGlinchey might not have the athletic traits to play on the left side of the offensive line, but if you need an 8-10 year starter at right tackle, he’s your guy.

For what he lacks in athleticism, McGlinchey makes up for it in technique, pinpoint footwork and solid hand placement. He’s not quite as good as his teammate, Quenton Nelson, but he’s still first-round material.

The Bears need more consistency and talent at the tackle positions, which will be instrumental in keeping Trubisky upright for the foreseeable future. McGlinchey offers that upside over their current right tackle in Massie.
