Grading the Chicago Bears’ main moves in free agency
With the first major rush of free agency over with, let’s look at how Ryan Pace and the Chicago Bears did in addressing key needs.
Quite simply, it was time for Ryan Pace and the Chicago Bears had a free agency period like this.
They had suffered through multiple seasons of ineptitude under John Fox, first with a stagnant situation at quarterback with Jay Cutler and then with an uncertain future with Mike Glennon and Mitch Trubisky.
And they simply didn’t value overpaying for free agents during that time, knowing that that cap space would be better used once Pace had gained full control of the team and could truly implement his vision.
That time has come with the emergence of Trubisky as this team’s quarterback and with his hiring of Matt Nagy.

Now, what Pace has done, more or less, is build a team with a legitimate chance to compete for an NFC North title on paper. And we haven’t even gotten to the NFL Draft yet.
And you all were worried, thinking this would be like every other year.
No. When Pace is ready to play poker, he doesn’t keep checking and waiting for others to make moves. He calls everyone’s bets and goes all in the moment he sees what he wants.
Let’s take a look at how well that philosophy helped him reshape the Chicago Bears’ roster.
