Chicago Bears: Top 25 players in franchise history
By Ryan Heckman
13. RB Matt Forte
Matt Forte was one of the most under-appreciated running backs in all of football during his career. Because was never a flashy type of player when the game featured so many of them, Forte was often overlooked.
As a second round pick out of Tulane, Forte instantly made an impact as he ran for the second-most yardage (1,238) in his career during that rookie campaign.
Second on the Bears’ all-time rushing list, Forte was as consistent as running backs came over his 10-year career. He spent eight of those seasons with the Bears, rushing for 8,602 yards and 45 touchdowns.
The fact that he owns such a place in Bears history on the ground is impressive, but it was Forte’s ability to be a dual-threat back that places him so high on this list.
Over his decade-long career, Forte caught a whopping 554 passes for nearly 4,700 yards. He also scored 21 touchdowns through the air as well. Amassing over 10,700 total yards from scrimmage as a Bear, Forte was one of the lone bright spots during a handful of poor seasons as an organization.
He will more than likely never receive a gold jacket, but Forte will forever hold a special place in Bears history as one of the greatest players the franchise has ever seen.
