14. FB Bronko Nagurski

It has been quite some time since the fullback position was as relevant as Bronko Nagurski made it. Then again, we are talking about a guy who appears in both the College and Pro Football Hall of Fame.

Nagurski was a native of Bemidji, Minnesota and played college ball for his home state Gophers. The 1929 Consensus All American played in an era where appearing on both sides of the ball was nothing out of the ordinary.

As a fullback and defensive lineman, Nagurski led the Gophers to a Big Ten Championship in 1927 and would later see his jersey retired in 1951.

In 1930, Nagurski burst onto the pro scene with the Bears and played for eight seasons. Crazy enough, after leaving the game in 1937, Nagurski returned to the Bears to play one more season six years later.

In total, he helped the Bears win three championships and made the All-Pro First Team on four occasions. He was a tough man to stop with the ball in his hands at a towering 6’2″ and 235 pounds. In his era, Nagurski was bigger than the average defensive lineman in most cases.

Some people may not know, but Nagurski also made himself a career out of professional wrestling as well. He even won multiple championships and was inducted into the Professional Wrestling Hall of Fame.
