Chicago Bears: 5 things we know after first wave of free agency
By Ryan Heckman
4. The second wave of free agents in Chicago will feature linebackers and edge defenders.
Update: The Bears have signed Aaron Lynch to a 1-year deal, via Ian Rapoport.
While it has been fun to dream about what the offense will look like, Pace is undoubtedly looking at his defense and ready to address those holes as well. As we get into the second wave of free agency in the coming days, get ready to see some changes on the other side of the ball.
There are still many players available that would be more than welcomed in Chicago, like the above pictured Aaron Lynch. The 25-year-old free agent outside linebacker has played under defensive coordinator Vic Fangio in the past and would fit right in.
Some other names to keep an eye out for are Navorro Bowman, Adrian Clayborn, Courtney Upshaw, Alex Okafor and Zach Brown.
There is little doubt that the Bears will be drafting heavy on defense and specifically an edge rusher. But, it is up to Pace to create competition, and that starts in the next few days. Already, the Bears re-signed Sam Acho, giving them a guy who is familiar with the system and very good as a rotational player.
I have a feeling the big-time offensive free agent signings are almost done with, outside of maybe an offensive lineman or a must-have type of player who is released.
From here on out, expect primarily defense from Pace in the second wave.
