Chicago Bears Free Agency: Day two recap, day three preview
By Ryan Heckman
The Bears finally seem to have a long-term solution at kicker.
Chicago had been suffering at the hands of Connor Barth for far too long. Yes, two seasons is what I would deem “far too long.”
Barth could only miss so many crucial field goals and retain his job before Pace had seen enough. Tuesday, Pace had reached that point.
Former Dolphins kicker Cody Parkey agreed to sign with the Bears on Tuesday in a highly underrated move. Still young at just 26 years old, Parkey has a lot of years left in him assuming his health stays intact.
Parkey is coming off a season in which he nailed three game-winning kicks for the Dolphins, including a 54-yarder. On his career, Parkey is in fact 6-for-7 on 50-plus yard kicks. I think I can live with that.
Last year, Parkey finished the season at just over 91 percent accuracy. He is a career 86 percent kicker, which is less than one percent away from where the former fan favorite, Robbie Gould, is sitting at for his career number. Once again, I can live with that.
With kicker squared away, the Bears can now focus on additional positions heading into day three.
