Chicago Bears Free Agency: Day two recap, day three preview
By Ryan Heckman
Trey Burton will compliment a developing Adam Shaheen.
The Bears added Burton to pair with second-year tight end Adam Shaheen, whom Pace was very high on in last year’s draft.
Shaheen boasts a 6’6″ frame with wide receiver-like speed, while Burton is 6’3″ and can run such smooth routes that he looks like a receiver himself. The Eagles already had a Pro Bowl tight end in Zach Ertz, so Burton was unlikely to take any playing time away from him when he was healthy.
In limited action last year, Burton scored five touchdowns and proved to the world that the Eagles will have a real problem come March — and they did. There wasn’t any way Burton would be retained as his value skyrocketed.
For a reason unknown to fans, Dowell Loggains refused to put his rookies on the field when it mattered most. Shaheen showed that he could make plays in the open field last year as he received more playing time, and many believe that Nagy will only further his development into an excellent pro.
Shaheen was overlooked by many because he was coming out of a small school like Ashland, but Pace did his research and knew who he wanted in the second round. Burton and Shaheen will compliment each other very well in Chicago, and I look forward to seeing the matchup nightmares they create together.
