4. Trubisky gets a security blanket

Mitch Trubisky is already at a critical juncture of his career.  The Chicago Bears expect him to take a substantial step forward this year in his development.  That would have been a much taller task without Robinson.

Last season provided invaluable experience for the young quarterback.  While he developed nicely in many intangible categories, one area in which he needs to improve dramatically is his consistency.

However, that would have been much more challenging without the addition of Allen Robinson.  The Bears’ receivers last year left much to be desired.  They rarely got much separation from the defensive back.  This is critical as a team tries to build the confidence of a young quarterback.

When the receivers were able to get some separation, they seemed to suffer from a case of the “drops.”  Now the Bears add Allen Robinson, who consistently separates from the defense and catch the ball.

He is a fast, big-bodied receiver who makes plays.  He spent years catching errant passes from Blake Bortles, so he has honed his ability to adjust to bad throws.  No doubt he will provide a security blanket for Trubisky as he continues to mature.

Finally, Robinson should help Trubisky in an area where he already excels.  Last season, Trubisky was outstanding throwing downfield (20+ yards).  The excerpt above shows gaudy ratings in this category.

As mentioned above, Robinson represents a legitimate deep threat.  Expect this combination to flourish in 2018.
