Chicago Bears: Allen Robinson’s impact on the Bears
3. Wide receiver group will benefit
Another obvious benefit of signing Allen Robinson is the effect he’ll have on the rest of the wide receiver group. By signing a true number one wide receiver, Pace has taken a lot of pressure off the rest of the room.
In 2016, Cameron Meredith enjoyed his most successful season when he played opposite of Alshon Jeffery. Before his injury, Chicago Bears fans hoped he would perform well as “the” guy. However, no one knew if he would have the same success. It’s much different going against the opponent’s top cornerback and being the focus of the defense.
With Robinson in the fold, defensive coordinators will need to gameplan ways to stop him. That will certainly open the field up for guys like Cameron Meredith, and whoever else Ryan Pace brings in.
Granted, both players are coming off of significant knee injuries. However, their respective recoveries seem to be going well. The Bears have not had two legitimate wide receiving threats since Jeffery and Brandon Marshall each had more than 1,000 yards in 2013.
While arguably not as talented a duo, the concept is the same. Teams will not be able to simply shut down one player to shut down the Bears’ offense. That should be a welcome change for Bears fans.
