Chicago Bears: Post-Combine/Pre-Free Agency Mock Draft
Pre-combine pick: Mike White, QB
While Brett Toth weighed in at the Combine (6’5″, 290 lbs), he did not partake in any testing. For the most part, I’m gauging his positioning here as a result of how well he performed at the Senior Bowl. That and his talent, along with his background, could make him into the next Alejandro Villanueva.
Now, Villanueva needs no introduction given that he was also a West Point grad who found his way into the NFL. An unfortunate ACL tear to then-Steeler’s left tackle Kelvin Beachum opened the door for Villanueva to become a household name.
I’m not saying Toth can be as good as Ben Roethlisberger‘s blind-side protector as soon as he enters the league. However, his potential is there.
He is a physical run-blocker who could be developed and built up into a solid lineman by offensive line coach Harry Hiestand. Learning how to pass-block effectively will determine if he can reach his true potential.
There is also the topic of his military obligations. It’s unknown regarding his future as an NFL player because after all, he is in the United States Army. That, of course, is a risk that teams are already aware of at this juncture of the pre-draft process.
