Chicago Bears: Post-Combine/Pre-Free Agency Mock Draft
Take a look at who the Chicago Bears might take in the 2018 NFL Draft following the NFL Combine and official start of free agency.
The dust has officially settled since the end of the annual NFL Scouting Combine and quite a bit has since happened.
The franchise tag deadline passed and curiously, the Chicago Bears opted to not tag Kyle Fuller. Instead, they went the road less traveled: the transition tag. With this news, among other tag-related business, let’s take a look at what a revised mock draft looks like for the Bears.
One of the important things to note with this mock is that I’m making a few assumptions about what the Bears do this week in free agency. Some of this is based on who wasn’t hit with the franchise tag, some of it is just connecting the dots.
Without laying out the entire Bear’s free agent class of 2018, here are the major moves:
- Cameron Meredith: Original Round Tender
- Kyle Fuller: Transition Tag, $12.97 million (Extension before March 14th very possible but Bears can at least match any offer when FA period starts).
- Allen Robinson: 1 year, $14 million (Taking the Alshon Jeffery route; he could potentially parlay this into a bigger deal midseason).
- Albert Wilson: 3 years, $12 million (Chiefs GM Brett Veach basically said the Bears can have him).
- Zach Fulton: 3 years, $24 million (This is another obvious Chiefs connection).
- Trent Murphy: 1 year, $5 million (A torn ACL and PED suspension should dampen Murphy’s market).
- Trey Burton: 3 years, $21 million (This allows Adam Shaheen‘s development to take its course. Plus, it gives Mitchell Trubisky another QB-friendly receiving option along with two tight end sets).
I don’t have a crystal ball and I have zero experience being in an NFL front office. I’m gauging these contracts mostly off of what players received last year in free agency.
So in all likelihood, the length, value, and guarantees of each contract will be different when these guys put actual pen to paper.
