The Bears chose to tender three of their restricted free agents.

What we know: Bryce Callahan, Cameron Meredith and Josh Bellamy were tendered.

What we don’t know: Which of them, if any, will receive outside offers?

Pace chose not to tender Patrick Scales and John Timu, thus allowing them to hit the open market. As for the other three, the Bears hold the right to first refusal which essentially means they can match an offer that comes the way of that particular player.

I can say that, for one, Callahan and Meredith should garner some interest from other teams. How much, though? That remains to be seen. Meredith is coming off a season-ending injury and Callahan is still not a household name.

Meredith burst onto the scene two years ago after working his way onto the field due to injuries. A former practice squad native, Meredith proved he was a viable weapon when healthy.

Callahan, on the other hand, finished as a top-10 nickel back last season as he put together a quietly excellent campaign.

If you know my take on Bellamy, you’d know I’m hoping that some team comes along and makes him an offer that the Bears need not match. But, that’s a debate for another time.

Aside from the three restricted free agent tenders, the Bears also re-signed versatile offensive lineman Bradley Sowell.
