The Chicago White Sox have been hit with a brutal rash of injuries this spring, particularly to their coup of top prospects. While it’s concerning to see the young guys go down, Chicago White Sox fans should not overreact.

The Chicago White Sox have arguably the best stock of young talent in the league. Jake Burger and Luis Robert were off to big starts this spring. Eloy Jimenez and Micker Adolfo were making big impressions in camp. Everything was falling into place.

The baseball Gods reminded White Sox fans not to get too ahead of themselves.

It started with Micker Adolfo. The Chicago White Sox 11th-ranked prospect was diagnosed with a strained UCL in his right elbow just a couple games into spring.

However Adolfo and the Sox caught a huge break, as the injury will not require surgery yet, and Adolfo will be able to play designated hitter for the time being.

The Chicago White Sox didn’t get as lucky with the next one. Just a few days later, 2017 first round pick Jake Burger went down with a ruptured achilles, suffered while running out a ground ball in a game against the Oakland Athletics.

Burger wasn’t expected to play in the big leagues this season, but 2018 was viewed at as a big developmental season for Burger. The loss of a full season makes a big impact on Burger’s progression as a player in the future.

The Burger injury is big, but the White Sox caught a break given the fact that the injury was suffered by someone who wasn’t expected to make any sort of impact at the major league level in 2018.

Masked by the other two injuries was the ongoing knee soreness that has plagued top prospect Eloy Jimenez for most of the spring. Jimenez is viewed at as one of the most major league ready prospects in the White Sox farm system. While Jimenez is expected to play for the rest of the spring, any sort of ongoing injury is a bad sign for a young player, especially one that expects to be a future superstar like Jimenez.

As if the first three wasn’t enough, White Sox third-ranked prospect Luis Robert suffered a sprained thumb in Wednesday’s game, and is expected to miss ten weeks. Robert was making big strides in his first ever spring training, and hit a go-ahead grand slam against the Cincinnati Reds in his first start last week.

While the injuries aren’t a good sign, White Sox fans need to take a deep breath.

None of this is going to matter in the long run.

Sure Robert missing ten weeks is disappointing, but a sprained thumb won’t have any impact on the future play of Luis Robert.

Adolfo’s elbow and Burger’s achilles will heal, and by next spring, everyone is going to perfectly healthy.

And if you’re wondering about Jimenez, he looks just fine.

About Luis Robert, his thumb was good enough to help him do this in the same game that he suffered the injury.

So yeah, everything is going to be just fine.

Relax White Sox fans, the future is as bright as ever. The best is yet to come.
