I had to. I’m sorry.
Actually, no I’m not.
Colin Kaepernick still doesn’t have a job. Take a look at the numbers. Look at the tape. Do some investigation as to what kind of talent — or lack thereof — he had in San Francisco during that last season and tell me he didn’t have one of the most impressive and efficient seasons in all of professional football.
Teams are scared of him. I get it. The media hurricane that would follow him wherever he ended up would be almost too overwhelming for any coach or front office to risk.
But, hear me out.
Kaepernick has been successful at the quarterback position in the NFL. That’s well-known. He’s been to a Super Bowl. He’s won playoff games while having enormous performances, including a record-breaking day against the Packers a few years back.
He’s been there, done that on the field.
Off the field, he’d provide a completely different type of value. You want to talk about one of the more scrutinized players in the history of the game, look no further. The scrutiny, though, came mainly from the outside world. Several players have supported him in his social justice stance and have given him a lot of respect for doing what he believes is right. The criticism has come predominantly from those outside the locker room.
The type of composure and experience Kaepernick would bring to the Bears cannot be overstated. Trubisky is also a mobile quarterback, continuing to develop and improve. You cannot tell me Kaepernick wouldn’t be a phenomenal candidate to help him along the way.
Will it happen? Probably not. But, it should.
