Chicago Bears: 5 free agents familiar with head coach Matt Nagy
By Ryan Heckman
With free agency rapidly approaching, it might be a good idea to familiarize yourself with some key players who have experience under Chicago Bears head coach Matt Nagy.
We are now less than a week away from the 2018 NFL Free Agency frenzy that will surely be a key period in Ryan Pace’s career. The Chicago Bears have plenty of money to spend and several holes to fill.
Pace has already made it clear this offseason that he has a plan in place, and it’s going to be done his way. Many veterans have already been released for various reasons. Whether it be to save money, gain some youth around Halas Hall or simply due to health reasons, the Bears have seen some meaningful names leave the team.
Not only has he made key roster decisions, but Pace brought in what feels like a tremendously talented coaching staff. It started with new head coach Matt Nagy, and as assistants and coordinators came into focus, you could tell things were going to be different.
With Nagy and his staff firmly in place, the direction they are headed is clear. The offense is going to look strangely unfamiliar to Bears fans, and that’s because it’s going to be the opposite of what we’re used to seeing. Nagy is going to bring excitement and innovation to what was a rather bland offense a year ago.
Defensively, Vic Fangio’s return will only further the improvement this group has made. It will be a strength of the team, no doubt. To have consistency with a scheme and key players in place is quite an advantage.
Although things have gone in a positive direction for Chicago, like I said, they have needs to fill. It starts with free agency.
It might be a good idea for us to familiarize ourselves with some key free agents who have experience playing Nagy. Familiarity and chemistry cannot be understated when you’re establishing a culture for the first time, and maybe bringing in a couple of these guys will ease the adjustment for the rest of the team.
