Strengths: One-of-a-kind athlete

Now, I could go on about NFL Combine measurements to give you a taste of what Edmunds can do athletically. After all, that’s what’s freshest in everyone’s mind.

6-foot-5. 253 pounds. 34 1/2-inch arms (!!). A 4.54-second 40-yard dash. Borderline looking like a safety in his coverage drills.

But for you skeptics, don’t worry: he showed frequently exactly how crazy an athlete he was on film, too.

For one thing, it didn’t matter where you lined him up—inside or outside linebacker or in the slot on receivers. Everywhere he went on the football field, he was going there fast.

When he recognizes a play and takes a direct route to the ball, good luck trying to escape.

And if you’re a quarterback, let’s just keep this simple: don’t try to run away. You can’t.

This especially will have times wondering what he can do as an edge rusher. He and Leonard Floyd would be two of the most freakish edge rushers you could put on the same time. I would not want them chasing me.

Furthermore, for a young, lanky linebacker, he has some patience and craftiness to avoid blocks at the second level.

Here, he slow-plays the guard climbing to the linebacker level just long enough to miss being blocked and then slides around him into open space. From there, he just takes two giant strides to devour this running back before he can reach the line of scrimmage.

Also, when you throw him in coverage, he can be an absolute marvel to watch. I mean, seriously.

This kid can run stride-for-stride with running backs, tight ends and just about anyone but the fastest receivers. Watch him jump in this back’s hip pocket on a wheel route.

And he’s capable of making plays on the ball like this.

This is not normal for a linebacker, I’m sorry. Even Floyd didn’t make plays like that in coverage. That’s why people are throwing Brian Urlacher comps out there with Edmunds.
