Chicago Bears: What Marquise Goodwin’s new deal means for Ryan Pace
By Ryan Heckman
The Chicago Bears are in the market for wide receivers. The San Francisco 49ers just spent some cash on Marquise Goodwin. What does this mean for Ryan Pace?
Free agency is coming quickly, and the Chicago Bears need to add some serious talent to their wide receiver core. Today, the San Francisco 49ers locked down one of their own for another three years.
Marquise Goodwin had a breakout year once Jimmy Garoppolo got to town, so it’s easy to see why they spent the money on extending him. How much money exactly? The deal is worth just over $20 million with $10 million guaranteed.
The 49ers are one of the teams that have been involved in some hot rumors over the last couple of weeks regarding free agent wide receivers Allen Robinson and Sammy Watkins. They have also been a rumored landing spot for Jarvis Landry, who is being shopped.

The 49ers didn’t necessarily break the bank by extending Goodwin, but they spent some money and Goodwin is now an integral part of their offense for the foreseeable future.
So, with Goodwin locked down, will they go after any of the above three players? The offense will get back Pierre Garcon, who still has some good years left in him.
With Goodwin’s deal, it likely means that Pace should be able to obtain at least one of the three receivers aforementioned. At one point, the 49ers were rumored to potentially land two of those guys. Now, it doesn’t seem as likely.
It doesn’t make an enormous impact, but the fact that the 49ers are spending money and spending it on a receiver is a positive. Nothing bad can come of that if you’re a Bears fan. It only means that there will be a better chance of Pace landing a top wide receiver in the coming days.
