Chicago Bears: Top 5 most likely candidates in first round of NFL Draft
By Ryan Heckman
2. CB Joshua Jackson, Iowa Hawkeyes
“I’ll take that.”
I say that in my head over and over again, each time I watch that play. Joshua Jackson is one of the most impressive players I have seen over the last few years, and it’s not just because of his one-handed interceptions.
The Iowa product can straight up change games. He brings a swagger to the field like that of an Ed Reed, Richard Sherman or Champ Bailey. Jackson has a nose for the ball, that’s for sure.
Jackson’s 2017 numbers almost seem like they were meant to be in a video game. He finished the season with a whopping 26 passes defended and eight interceptions. Unfortunately, not all of his picks were one-handed — although, it seemed like they were if you watched him last year. More often than not, Jackson ended the weekend as one of the centerpieces to every college football highlight reel in America.
Again, it’s not just his nose for the ball that impresses me. At 6’1″, he gives you the size desirable at the corner position. Jackson did run his 40-yard dash in 4.51 seconds, which is pretty solid for a bigger corner. Jackson checks every box with size, speed, ball skills and, oh yeah, he’s pretty good in coverage too.
Just picture, for a moment, the physical dominance that Jackson would bring along with Fuller. If I’m Vic Fangio, I’d be campaigning pretty hard for Jackson if he is there at eight. He would immediately give the Bears a top-10 cornerback duo in all of football — bold prediction, I know.
Choosing between Jackson and the top guy on this list would be — and just might be — a decision I would not want to be responsible for. Like I said, a handful of quarterbacks will likely go before the Bears pick. Pace is going to have a tough call ahead of him.
