2. Draft Flexibility

Already this week, it appears as though the Bears are going to hold onto Fuller having given him the transition tag. Unless another team makes a ridiculous offer that the Bears simply won’t match, he will return to Chicago and hopefully see a long-term deal come into effect shortly.

If they were to bring in Sherman, it would solidify their starting cornerbacks with he and Fuller. That being said, Chicago wouldn’t necessarily feel obligated to address the position early in the draft.

At the moment, many people believe that either Denzel Ward out of Ohio State or Joshua Jackson from Iowa would make a lot of sense for the Bears. I agree with this sentiment completely. Both Ward and Jackson are immensely talented players who should have long, successful careers in the NFL.

But, the Bears have other holes to fill as well. They are going to need to go heavy on linebacker in both free agency and the draft. But, if they were to sign Sherman, they might be able to prioritize linebacker at the forefront of their strategy.

Lots of fans want to see a guy like Tremaine Edmunds out of Virginia Tech in a Bears uniform. Chicago could take him at number eight overall and not worry one bit about their corner situation, which would be a luxury the Bears wouldn’t have seen coming just a few days ago.

Regardless which way the Bears decide to go in the first round of the draft, the point is that they will have much more flexibility knowing their corner situation is under control.
