Chicago Bears: Intriguing Round 2 options in 2018 NFL Draft (Pt. 1)
Equanimeous St. Brown, WR (Notre Dame)
Height: 6-foot-5
Weight: 214 pounds
Arm length: 33 inches
Hands: 9 3/4 inches
Before the NFL Combine, I could have seen St. Brown going near the bottom of Round 2 or top of Round 3 at the latest.
But he’s likely going to be highly sought-after earlier in the second round after what he did his past weekend.
I already knew he was long and lanky with some nice speed and very smooth route-running, of course. I’ve watched St. Brown since he was blocking punts against USC his freshman year.
What I didn’t expect to see was the size and strength St. Brown threw onto his frame since the end of the 2017-2018 season for Notre Dame.
I thought he’d check in at about 200-205 pounds this weekend. Instead, he came in at 214. Plus, he threw down 20 reps at 225 pounds on the bench press, a hugely impressive total for a tall kid like him.
That said, I was even more encouraged watching him catch the football in the gauntlet drills. He clearly has been working on catching passes away from his frame a bit more. And though he doesn’t look 100% natural yet, he has made tremendous strides in an area that will absolutely translate onto the field.
That, and he did what he had to do in the 40, clocking a 4.48-second best run.
Simply put, St. Brown has clearly been doing work this offseason to improve himself. And when you combine that with the gifts he has already as well as his impressive mind, route-running and run-after-catch ability, he would fit beautifully into Matt Nagy’s offense.
Imagine Allen Robinson, Cameron Meredith and a taller, more electric version of Meredith on the field for the Chicago Bears. Yes. That sounds really fun.
