Courtland Sutton has been one of my favorite prospects for a while now. Maybe it’s the fact that he reminds me the most of Jeffery during his stint with the Bears. After watching guys like Jeffery and Marshall, it’s tough not to be a sucker for these types.

The SMU standout had just the type of combine performance I would have expected. With a large frame, and being a stronger receiver, his 40-yard dash was just fine in my eyes. The type of player Sutton is doesn’t require him to have blazing speed. In fact, Sutton was supposed to run a little over his time, so I was happy with the outcome.

His vertical and broad jump went well, although for a guy of his stature I might have liked to see a bit higher of a vertical. With his height, though, you don’t necessarily need a 40-inch vertical. I could see him being able to make contested catches relatively easily.

Sutton’s additional drills were quite surprising. For someone his size, he showed fantastic quickness and agility.

These were by far the highlights of his combine workout, if you ask me. To be able to move your feet that quickly at 6’4″ is that which offensive coordinators love to see.

The question, though, is whether or not he fits into the Bears’ new scheme. Could Sutton help Chicago’s offense? Most certainly. But, does he fit the bill as the type of player Nagy would typically go after? Judging by his arsenal in Kansas City, that would be hard to believe.

What’s interesting, however, is that no one really knows what Nagy will do with his first head coaching opportunity. Maybe he surprises us all and goes after a big body like either Sutton or Allen Robinson via free agency.

In any scenario, outside of the first round, I would still love to see Sutton in a Bears uniform. I think Nagy is smart enough to use a guy of his caliber and wouldn’t put it past the Bears grabbing him.
