Now we have come full circle back to Saquon Barkley.  I know what you’re thinking — mainly because you have told me on social media.  However, as I began this piece, it is not that crazy of an idea.

The one thing we know about Ryan Pace is that, when he has conviction about something, he moves heaven and earth to make it happen.  To those saying “the Bears will never draft Saquon Barkley” I ask you this: did you know Ryan Pace was going to trade up to draft Leonard Floyd or Mitchell Trubisky?  Did you know last year he was going to spend two picks on virtually unknown players from small schools?  My guess is that, if you are honest with yourself, the answer to both of those questions is ‘no.’

Therefore, it is conceivable that Pace might move heaven and earth to draft Barkley if he has a similar conviction.  While they currently do not have the draft capital to make that happen, they could get it.  Remember, any deal for Jordan Howard would presumably include draft picks in return.  Pace could then flip those extra picks to move up in the first round.

Look, I get it.  The Bears have a ton of needs and should use any additional picks to fill them.  I don’t disagree, but Pace and Nagy are calling the shots.  And if they think Barkley is the transformation player many do, then they may go get him.

I’m not going to sell the idea that Barkley is a tremendous talent.  Frankly, there is no disputing that, and I documented that argument in an earlier post.  Besides, I don’t know how anyone can watch that video above and not think he’d look fantastic in a Bears uniform.

Bottom Line

Two days ago, people thought the idea of the Bears trading Jordan Howard was “stupid.”  Today, we are presented with the reality that it might just happen.  While ultimately it may not come to fruition, the Chicago Bears should do their due diligence on this year’s running back class just in case an offer blows them away.
