Ronald Jones could be the next great running back to come out of the University of Southern California.  Saquon Barkley is the cream of this year’s running back crop.  However, Ronald Jones would be a tremendous consolation prize.

In my opinion, he possesses many of the same skills that make Barkley so desirable.  Though perhaps not to the same level, Jones is great in space and in tight windows.  He has an uncanny ability to change directions, using his incredible balance and agility.

Although he is only 5 feet 11 inches and weighs 200 pounds, he is more than capable in pass protection and picking up the blitz.  Therefore, he can easily be a three-down back in the NFL.

What I love about Jones, and is on display in the tweet below from Matt Bowen, is his ability to hit the hole and accelerate.  He is not the type that will dance around the backfield looking to hit the home run every time.  However, he has the patience to wait for the hole and the vision to hit it hard once he sees it.

Chicago Bears fans will also love his player comparison.  At least one draft expert has compared him to  Jamal Charles, who Nagy had in Kansas City. If Jones can be anything close to Charles, Bears fans would be thrilled.  With that type of skillset, Jones may not be available at pick number 39.  Therefore, he is only a realistic option if the Bears decide to move back in the first round, or potentially up in the second round.
