The NFL Combine is always home to several juicy rumors. Saturday, it appeared as though the Chicago Bears may have been ready to ship Jordan Howard to the Miami Dolphins.

Breathe easy, Bears fans. It isn’t happening. At least, according to NFL insider Ian Rapoport, Jordan Howard doesn’t appear to be going anywhere anytime soon.

Earlier on Saturday, there was all of the sudden an enormous amount of steam coming from the rumor mill. Apparently, a few sources had confirmed the Bears and Dolphins were in talks to trade Howard for wide receiver Jarvis Landry.

The deal was said to have included swapping of draft picks as well.

As of right now, however, it doesn’t look like there will be a deal done involving number 24. Kyle Long can exhale and know that his buddy is safe.

We referenced this previously, but it’s worth throwing out there again. Long would not have been too happy had Howard been traded.

Some have questioned whether or not Howard fits into the new offense being installed by head coach Matt Nagy. My question to them is, how do you not fit him in?

Howard is one of the few guys in all of football who can handle a heavy workload. Not to say he should get it, simply due to extending his career, but he sure can handle a lot of carries if need be.

For fans that may not completely know the ins and outs of the game, Howard is a perfect back for the four-minute offense. When your team is winning and needs to burn the clock, it needs a back like Howard. He’s a grinder. He doesn’t go down easily. He extends plays and rarely loses yards.

Don’t ever tell me the Bears cannot find a fit for Howard in their new offense, let alone any offense they would choose to run. Howard is elite — period — and he’s not going anywhere.
