When Danny Trevathan is on the field, the Bears defense is better. In other news, Jim McMahon loves sunglasses.

In all seriousness, Trevathan is one of the better inside linebackers in all of football. He was one of the big splash signings for Pace and the Bears two years ago. As a sixth round pick, Trevathan knew he had much to prove, and he did so right from the start.

In four years with Denver, Trevathan posted two seasons with 100-plus tackles, picked off five passes and forced four fumbles. The Bears knew they were getting a guy who loved to be around the football.

Trevathan can be one of those players the defense leans on for years to come, if he is healthy. That has been the big question in recent years, though. Trevathan has the instincts needed to play his position to perfection, and all the physical tools in the world, but seeing the field is another story.

Over the span of his two seasons with the Bears, though, Trevathan has missed seven games and four games respectively. Last year, two of those games were due to suspension.

Trevathan is by far one of the best players on the Bears and his health and success directly impact how good this defense can be in 2018. Like Long, he is one of the vocal leaders on this team and he has to do everything he can to get back on the field for all 16 games.
