Chicago Bears: Ranking the top 10 current players on roster
By Ryan Heckman
8. S Eddie Jackson
Experience: Second season
Drafted: 2017, fourth round, 112th overall by CHI
One of my favorite players on this list, undoubtedly, is Eddie Jackson. I still cannot believe the Bears stole him in the fourth round of last year’s draft. Maybe the fact that he was a 24-year old rookie scared some teams away, or maybe it was due to injury concerns.
Coming out of Alabama, the league should have known. What do Crimson Tide defensive backs have in common? They are typically very solid as pros. Nick Saban knows what he’s doing with those guys, and thankfully Chicago got its hands on one when they did.
Jackson’s draft stock dipped a bit because of a broken leg during his final season, but he came back with a vengeance. On the one-year anniversary of Jackson breaking his leg, he played the game of his life against the Carolina Panthers.
The Bears ended up winning the game by a score of 17-3. Jackson was responsible for both touchdowns.
Jackson ended his rookie campaign with 73 tackles, six passes defensed, two interceptions, three fumble recoveries and a forced fumble. The man has a knack for finding the football and making big plays. He isn’t afraid to make an open-field tackle either.
Between Jackson and Amos, the Bears are set up to have a lethal safety combination in the near future. As long as both of these young guys continue to develop, Chicago’s secondary will be anchored by two studs for years to come.
