9. OLB Leonard Floyd

Experience: Third Season

Drafted: 2016, first round, ninth overall by CHI

There will be a lot of fans wondering why Leonard Floyd is so low on this list. Personally, one could argue that he shouldn’t make it on the list in the first place. But, I am not one of them. I’m a believer in the talent.

When Pace traded up to get Floyd a couple of years back, a lot of fans had the same reaction: “Who?”

It’s not that they didn’t know who Floyd was; more so that they wondered if the pick was a bit of a reach. Since they first time he stepped on the field, though, fans have seen why Pace loved him so much.

Floyd is a high motor guy — when he wants to be. That’s one of the biggest knocks on him. He may take a play or two off at times, and that is something that can be improved upon. But, he is on this list because he simply makes big plays.

Floyd is fast and aggressive. He tends to play angry which is fantastic. The Bears need that type of player. In fact, they need all they can get. Where did the “Monsters of the Midway” go, anyways? Floyd is there to help bring them back.

Having 11.5 sacks in 22 games for the Bears, Floyd could absolutely raise those numbers. I think he certainly will, too.

One of the things that stuck out during a press conference earlier in the year was when Fangio talked about how the first thing they need to do in order to improve was not to go get better players. No, Fangio believed that the first step was to improve the guys they already have on the roster — and I think one of the main players he may have alluded to was Floyd.

He has all the raw talent in the world to be an elite pass rusher. It is up to him to put it together on the field — every single play.
