As the combine arrives, the Chicago Bears will be putting the finishing touches on their planning for free agency and continuing their research into draft prospects. Let’s take a look at players in both pools that can make the Chicago Bears a playoff team next season.

Following Wednesday’s announcement of the pending cuts of outside linebacker Willie Young and quarterback Mike Glennon, the Chicago Bears are sitting pretty heading into free agency.

The Chicago Bears have many holes to fill, but general manager Ryan Pace should be able to fill them through the draft and free agency. Now, he has to actually spend money in free agency this offseason.

I don’t see how Pace can bargain shop for free agents like Markus Wheaton. However, I do understand the logic behind it in prior seasons. The Chicago Bears were never going to win anyways, in 2017, if they had spent big on a player like Stephon Gilmore. But the bargain shopping also helped lead to Akiem Hicks.

However, with a season under the belt of quarterback Mitch Trubisky and young players like Adrian Amos and Jordan Howard continuing to grow, the time has come to attack free agency.

I would think that that two of the three players will be cut: Dion Sims, Wheaton and Marcus Cooper. So, its very possible that the Chicago Bears will have about $90 million in cap space.

The biggest needs for the team are offensive line, receiver, corner and within the defensive front seven.
