Chicago Bears: Matt Forte already among Bears greats
Let’s celebrate Matt Forte‘s career by looking back at some of his best moments and accomplishments with the Chicago Bears.
After ten years in the NFL, Matt Forte finally decided it was time to hang up his cleats.
The long-time Chicago Bears running back retired from the NFL yesterday, ending a remarkable career.
“For the past 10 years, I’ve been blessed to play professionally a game that I’ve loved since I was 6 years old,” Forte wrote to Sports Spectrum. “But after much prayer and reflection, I’ve decided to retire from the NFL.”
“It’s time for the workhorse to finally rest in his stable.”
And it will be a rest well-earned for a man who was as dependable and durable as they came, especially during his time with the Chicago Bears.
Forte retires near the top of several Bears lists, including being second in rushing yards, receptions and 1000-yard seasons behind only Walter Payton.
He joins Payton as the only running back on the franchise’s top 10 receiving yards list.
And his 14,468 career yards from scrimmage during his 10 seasons led the league in that span, making him one of the top weapons in all of football.
Simply put, Forte is one of the greatest Chicago Bears of all-time and (depending on how you feel about Gale Sayers) might be its second-greatest running back.
As such, let’s take a fond look back on some of his top plays and accomplishments with the Chicago Bears.
These are in no particular order, and there are so many great moments that picking five is hard. So feel free to leave some of your favorites in the comments.
