Chicago Bears: 5 underrated cornerback targets in 2018 NFL Draft

There is always that one guy in every draft that gets rave reviews in terms of his talent, but comes with some baggage. Meet J.C. Jackson out of Maryland.
The 6’1” corner of the Terrapins is one of those guys who has all the physical tools in the world, but because of some poor choices in the past few years, his draft stock has taken a hit.
Jackson is a very athletic kid who projects to run near a 4.4 40-yard dash at the combine. He uses his athleticism best in a zone scheme where he can press often.
He is a physical guy that can affect a receiver’s route from the get-go. He is stronger than most at his position, so the strength drills will be fun to watch him compete in.
Something I really like about Jackson is that he isn’t shy about making a hit on running backs. It’s a trait you saw Fuller get real aggressive with in 2017, and something that Fangio would love to have in another corner like Jackson.
As I mentioned, Jackson comes with concerns. In 2014, he was involved in a situation where he was shot at, while his friend was shot in the face. IN 2015, Jackson was let go from the Florida Gators due to an armed robbery. In the end, Jackson wound up being acquitted.
One weakness he will need to work on as a pro is getting comfortable outside a zone coverage. Reading and anticipating a route isn’t a strong suit of his, but Jackson can certainly improve under the right scheme and coaching.
At one point, Jackson may have been a late first round talent. Because of his off-field concerns, he could end up being a steal in the third round if Pace were to take a chance.
