Chicago Bears: 10 viable draft prospects to watch at the combine
By Ryan Heckman
LB Tremaine Edmunds, Virginia Tech
Get used to hearing this name a lot, Bears fans. If any of you reading this are on Twitter, you know how popular this name has become among Chicago’s fanbase. Tremaine Edmunds is the real deal.
How good is he? He is graded by many as one of the top three players in this year’s draft class, but because of the quarterback-needy teams picking ahead of the Bears, Pace and company are in play to potentially grab him at number eight.
Edmunds is lengthy and athletic. At 6’5″ and weighing 250lbs, Edmunds covers space incredibly well. He is not easily blocked and also rarely misses a tackle.
Here he is sporting one of his best traits, tackling the opposition for a loss. Edmunds had 14 such tackles in 2017.
In his last season with the Hokies, Edmunds recorded a whopping 109 tackles. Do you think he covers some ground out there? I’d say so.
The guy can also rush the passer, finishing 2017 with 5.5 sacks. Does he remind you of anyone in particular? I’ll give you a hint — he was just selected to the Pro Football Hall of Fame earlier this year.
Yes, Brian Urlacher is a very solid pro comparison. Urlacher’s name is all over the place when people are referring to Edmunds. If you could guarantee me that kind of player, I’d be all over Edmunds at eight if I was Pace.
