Chicago Bears Mock Draft: Pre-Combine Edition
“With the 105th pick in the 2018 NFL Draft, the Chicago Bears select…”
The Chicago Bears may not get a chance to get Averett here. If he tests well in the pre-draft process, he could rise into the Day 2 discussion.
Averett actually started out as a safety coming out of high school before transitioning to corner at Alabama. Kind of funny when you consider how Eddie Jackson last year made a similar transition at Alabama (except he was moved from corner to safety).
Teammate Tony Brown is a more athletic player, but Averett earned more playing time because of his football intelligence and overall consistency.
That in mind, Averett will need to bulk up a bit as he comes in at 185 pounds. His ball skills could also use some work given that he only had one interception throughout his entire collegiate career.
With Kyle Fuller, Prince Amukamara, Sherrick McManis, and Bryce Callahan all entering the upcoming free agency period, the Bears will need bodies at corner. Retaining Fuller should be the highest priority for Ryan Pace. However, finding someone to start opposite of him should also be on the radar.
Averett can fit that bill.
